A week after a group of us traveled to Louisiana specifically targeting this species, Lindsey turns one! What's more, it was found under the same piece of tin Jeremy had flipped a week prior! Special thanks to Lindsey for bringing this beautiful animal up for photos.
This specimen is now in full defensive display: the tail is raised and coiled, the cloaca is popping, and the snake is moving in rapid, jerky spurts. The alternating bands create an optical illusion that causes the snake to appear to be moving in the opposite direction; kind of like the spokes of a bicycle tire when it is "out of sync" with your eyes.
