Nesting Female

I took this picture at Byrd Lake Natural Area near Pine Bluff back in 2000. Byrd Lake is an oxbow lake adjacent to Bayou Bartholomew. This was only a few feet from the edge of the lake. She was in the process of covering her eggs that were buried in the root wad of a windfallen tree. I estimate she was around 30-40 pounds.
