Terrapene o. ornata specimen in the collections of the Smithsonian (USNM), Suitland Maryland. There is also a shell with this specimen which is not shown. Diagnostic characteristics of skulls can be used to identify between T. carolina and T. ornata when no other material is available. This photo was taken so that the skull could be compared with T. carolina skulls from my private collection.
